Guided tour in English by Sylvia Plachy of the exhibition Gifts from the 20th Century and Beyond

Sylvia Plachy is a Hungarian-born photographer living in New York. As a friend and student of André Kertész, she is one of the few who authentically and modernly represent thetradition of humanist photography in the 21st century. She makes her images instinctively, adhering to her own rules of image creation. Or not at all. Wherever she goes in the world, she senses where the image is for her and makes the hidden story visible.

The exhibition “Gifts from the 20th Century and Beyond” is not only an overview of his oeuvre, but also presents some of his pictures in published form: for many of the pictures, copies made for the exhibition will be shown, as well as the published version, with other photos and texts. This complex presentation will guide the viewer through the history of the photograph and show the changes in the meaning of the photograph in different situations of publication.

The program is part of the Budapest Photo Festival.
