André Kertész – The Sentimentalist

André Kertész, who was born in Budapest, is one of the most important figures in the history of photography. In a career spanning more than seventy years and threecountries (Hungary, France and the United States), Kertész created a visual language ofmodernist photography that has been a point of reference and a source of inspiration forgenerations. Our new permanent exhibition presents a selection of these images and thestories behind them.

The exhibition follows the lives of the Qurnawi people, their decades-long relationship with the Hungarian Archaeological Mission in Thebes, and the unique connection between a community and a place that remains home long after it has been left behind.

How is artificial intelligence transforming the role, credibility, and social impact of photography in the Information Age?
During the process, the participating photographers, visual artists, intermedia artists, and writer (Lilla Bényi, Honora Buzássy, Balázs Csizik, Hanna Czeglédi, Zoi Dontasz, Zsuzsa Holló, Gergő Kincses, Géza Kulcsár, Flóra Lévai, Gergely Papp, Ágnes Petrucz, Gábor Szilágyi, Máté Takács, Zsófia Vágó, and Bába Gabriella Vincze) formed seven creative groups and collaboratively developed seven new photographic projects.

The diploma projects of the 2026 graduating class of the MOME Photography MA programme explore the idea of home and its many layers. Through personal stories, family histories, generational memories, childhood experiences, and the search for identity, the works lead us through the inner and outer spaces we call home.
